Discover Nepal: The Spiritual Heart of the Himalayas

Nestled in the heart of Asia, between the giants of China and India, lies a land of stunning landscapes, profound spirituality and rich cultural heritage. Nepal, a tiny yet enchanting country, offers a unique blend of adventure, serenity and rejuvenation. As the believed birthplace of yoga and a haven for ancient healing traditions, Nepal serves as the perfect destination for our Maitrī Mountain Blessings: Kindness in Every Breath retreat.

A Land of Sacred Peaks

In this small but mighty corner of Asia, towering mountains touch the sky and every peak and valley is shrouded in sacred legend. This is Nepal, home to the majestic Himalayas, including the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. The country's awe-inspiring landscapes are a testament to the grandeur of nature, offering endless opportunities for adventure and introspection. Whether you are trekking through the pristine trails, breathing in the fresh mountain air or meditating amidst the serene beauty, you will quickly find that Nepal’s mountains are an unrivalled source of inspiration and tranquility.

At the heart of these sacred peaks lies Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna Himalayas, where we will be hosting our Maitrī Mountain Blessings: Kindness in Every Breath retreat. Known for its serene lakes, lush forests and spectacular mountain views, Pokhara is a haven for adventurers and spiritual seekers alike. The city offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and vibrant culture, making it an ideal starting point for exploring the Annapurna region.

Steeped in Spirituality

Nepal’s cultural heritage is deeply influenced by spirituality. The country is a living museum of ancient traditions and hallowed sites that inspire awe and reverence. From the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini to the countless temples and stupas scattered across the land, Nepal is a place where spirituality permeates every aspect of life. Our retreat will immerse you in this reverent atmosphere, embracing practices like yoga, meditation and Ayurveda, each promoting holistic wellbeing.

Embracing Ancient Wisdom

In Nepal, age-old practices are not just a part of the past but are living traditions that continue to thrive. As the believed birthplace of yoga, Nepal offers an authentic experience of this ancient practice. Our Maitrī Mountain Blessings: Kindness in Every Breath retreat will include daily yoga and meditation sessions, guided by experienced practitioners who draw upon centuries of wisdom. Additionally, you can indulge in Ayurvedic treatments at our host resort Pavilions’ spa, harnessing the healing power of natural herbs and therapies that have been refined over millennia.

Humble and Kind People

Despite being a small country nestled between two global powerhouses, Nepal is bursting with its own unique identity and charm. The welcome shown by the nation to its visitors positively glows with warmth.

At the heart of this hospitality are the Nepali people. Known worldwide for their humility and kindness, this a nation of individuals who go above and beyond, making every interaction a memorable experience. Respect for elders is part of the nation’s psyche and guests are always shown the very best accommodation and food available. The spirit of community and compassion found at the core of the Nepali way of life will enhance your journey of healing and discovery.

Rich Culture and Art

Nepal’s rich cultural heritage reflects the diverse ethnic and religious influences of its people, making it a vibrant and captivating destination. The country’s artistic legacy is deep and diverse, with traditional art forms that have been passed down through generations. Thangka painting is one of the most renowned art forms, depicting intricate scenes from Buddhist mythology and religious practices. These detailed scroll paintings, created with natural pigments, require years of dedication to master and are a significant part of Nepal's cultural identity. Pottery, another prominent craft, sees skilled artisans shaping beautiful and functional clay vessels, reflecting both utility and artistry. Wood carving is equally significant, with craftsmen producing elaborate designs on everything from furniture to temple doors. These art forms not only highlight Nepal's rich heritage but also provide insights into the everyday lives and spiritual practices of its people.

Culinary Delights

Nepali cuisine, a vibrant blend of flavors, reflects the country's rich cultural mosaic. Influenced by India, Tibet and China, each dish tells a story of Nepal’s diverse heritage. A staple of Nepalese dining is dal bhat, a lentil soup paired with rice and seasonal vegetables, enjoyed for its simplicity and wholesomeness. Another beloved dish is momos, steamed dumplings served with a spicy dipping sauce, popular as a snack or appetiser.

Tea culture is integral to Nepalese social life. Grown in the Himalayan foothills, Nepalese tea is known for its unique, aromatic flavour. Sharing a cup of this fragrant tea is a common gesture of hospitality, embodying the warmth of Nepali culture.

During the Maitrī Mountain Blessings: Kindness in Every Breath retreat, our culinary experiences will include a Nepali tea ceremony. Each day, Big Love Chef Ayelet, in collaboration with The Pavilions' Chef, will craft a delightful daily plant-based menu celebrating the freshness and richness of Nepali produce, with seasonal organic vegetables harvested daily from The Pavilions’ own garden.
